Another year older and it’s something of a landmark. Five years. Wow. Hard to believe it’s been so long.
In that time we’ve made a wonderful group of friends – as customers, suppliers and people who’ve come to entertain us.
So as a thank you to those who’ve supported us, we’re bringing together the best of the last five years in beers and music from Friday 22nd to Sunday 22nd November. And it’s all free entry.
We’ll have specially brewed beers from Wishbone, Northern Monk, Saltaire and Wilde Child, and HebTroCo will be here all weekend from Hebden Bridge with some special limited edition ‘vinyl, ale and ham’ socks!
Friday 22nd November

DJ Jeff O’Toole
Jeff O’Toole is a regular DJ in many of Manchester’s alternative nightlife spots and has warmed up for the likes of Kurt Vile, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard and Michael Head. Expect a soundtrack of laid back grooves, indie rock, folk, balearica and electronica all played lovingly from vinyl with a smile.
Nick Ellis and Roy
Signed to Mellowtone Records, Nick has recently released his 3rd album in 2 years, Adult Fiction, following swiftly on the heels of Daylight Ghosts and Grace and Danger.
Again, the songwriting craft and the melody’s all important, Nick blends streetscape narrative-noir with a classic British acoustic approach. Using a blend of rhythmic attack and finger-quick lucidity, his sound has been described as “a conversation between Elvis Costello and John Martyn.”.
Of his songwriting, Nick says, “I see my songs as chapters and scenes. My albums as movies and books. Except in this film, the stories are true.”.
Roy is a storyteller, raconteur, comedian, poet – an Evertonian whose love/hate relationship with the club does occasionally feature in his work. But Roy’s about the bigger picture and his observations on the world he sees around him, the life he’s led, have earned him support slots on the same bill as the legendary Michael Head.

DJs DigJazz Collective, Bob Stanley, Adelle Stripe
DigJazz Collective, based in Saltaire, brings us a vinyl excursion through all things jazz. Laid back jazz vibes guaranteed.
Adelle Stripe is a writer from Tadcaster, North Yorkshire. Her debut novel based on the life and work of Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar, Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile, is published by Fleet. It was shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize and received the Society of Authors’ K Blundell Trust Award for Fiction. She can also be found DJing with the likes of Fat White Family and Snapped Ankles.
Bob Stanley is a British musician, journalist, author, and film producer. He is a member of the indie pop group Saint Etienne and has had a parallel career as a music journalist, writing for NME, Melody Maker, Mojo, The Guardian and The Times, as well as writing two books on music and football.

Dave Haslam – Keith Haring’s New York, and Sonic Youth Slept on My Floor pt2
Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam returns to The Record Café. He’ll be telling stories untold in his memoirs ‘Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor’, and discusses his current series of mini-books, including the latest, a celebration of the music and the New York clubs of the 1980s that inspired the artist Keith Haring.

It woulnd’t be a Record Café birthday without Howlin’Johnny and The Devil’s Rejects!
Formed in 1897 and still going strong after a life time of self abuse and downright foolishness. Fronted by ‘The Reverend’ Howlin’Johnny who howls and chokes that damn ukulele. Nick Procter on the six string banjo of doom. Johnny Lorrimer on the acoustic bass of Satan and Gareth Rice on washboard and coffin lid.Playing a mixture of origina material and some rather off the wall covers including Hank Williams Lonnie Donnegan, U2, Boom Town Rats, Oasis, Stray Cats, Chuck Berryand more !!!! We are available for weddings, beer festivals, real ale pubs, home gigs, folk festivals, gin festivals, funeral’s and all points between.
